Despite the scarce activity visible today on the rivers of the Basque Country, for centuries these waters witnessed the heavy traffic of river vessels as they sailed up and down, either carrying materials, animals and people or dedicated to fishing. This is the case of the River Oria. The descent of the Oria will introduce you to a natural area with delightful views.
We’ll meet you at the Arraunetxe rowing club, in Orio, where you’ll get changed, collect the necessary equipment and be taken by van to Aginaga. There, before getting into the water to start the activity, you’ll receive last-minute instructions. Including changing and arrival times, the whole activity will take around three hours to complete; however, given that there are places to stop, we suggest that you bring a snack and that you make the descent leisurely, enjoying the landscape as you go. The activity will end when you arrive back at the rowing club (Arraunetxe).
This is a peaceful river and you can’t get lost, making it perfect for all ages. However, all participants (children, young people and adults) must know how to swim and float in a life jacket.
