The full visit to Albaola is divided into four distinct areas. The first is the exhibition dedicated to Basque whalers, which tells their fascinating story by following the trail of the San Juan. Through graphic materials, tools, and models, visitors relive the epic story of this whaling ship, built in Pasaia in the 16th century and sunk in Newfoundland in 1565.
From there, visitors enter the traditional shipyard, where they can observe firsthand the work of shipwrights, apprentices, and Albaola volunteers, who build and restore wooden vessels of great heritage value.
Next, by passing through a wooden tunnel, visitors reach the area where the Ozentziyo is being restored, the last wooden tuna boat from the port of Donostia–San Sebastián.
Finally, the route leads to the space dedicated to other essential traditional shipbuilding crafts, such as blacksmithing, the making of oars and pulleys, rope-making, and sailmaking.
